Chile’s Billion-Dollar-Making ‘Crazy Experiment’

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Cyprus University of Technology, Chrysalis LEAP and Cyprus Energy Agency, organised a round-table discussion last month on what Cyprus can learn from Start-Up Chile, one of the most successful start-up accelerators in the world. Frances Lanitou Williams, Head of the Ministry’s newly established Economic Diplomacy Unit, introduced some 25 participants to Sebastian Diaz, Chief Marketing Officer of Start-Up Chile, who gave a brief and entertaining address about how his country had succeeded – against all odds – in attracting entrepreneurs from around the world in an attempt to change the mindset of business people in Chile in order to transform the country into an entrepreneurial hub for Latin America. GOLD was one of the invited participants in the discussion.
