The Art of Economic Diplomacy

Over the years, Economic Diplomacy has become a major theme of the external relations of almost every country in the world. Government ministries, investment promotion agencies and Chambers of Commerce, backed by embassies, consulates and trade missions abroad, all focus on attracting foreign business and investment as well as tourists. In October, Frances-Galatia Lanitou Williams, a diplomat of over 25 years standing, was made Head of Economic Diplomacy, a new unit being set up within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nicosia. She told Gold about the challenges and the philosophy behind her new position.
