Gold Magazine – The Law Issue

There are currently around 3,300 practising lawyers in Cyprus, working for more than 200 large and small firms, as well as those who run the in-house legal departments of numerous major companies. The firms tend to become better known than the individuals who are responsible for their employers’ reputation but, occasionally, the lawyers themselves find themselves in the spotlight for their personal contribution. The best-known legal professional directories, such as The Legal 500, Chambers Europe, Chambers Global, IFLR 1000 and Who’s Who Legal, all make a point of drawing attention to individual lawyers, many of whom who have been praised by their clients, for their excellence in their specific area of practice. For the cover story of the latest issue of Gold, out on Sunday 21 August, the editorial team has compiled a list of more than 140 lawyers in Cyprus, all of whom have been identified by one or more of the directories as being outstanding in their field. It also updates its list of the 70 biggest legal firms on the island, ranked by the number of lawyers employed.

Keeping to the same theme, the magazine also features interviews with Doros Ioannides, President of the Cyprus Bar Association, and Prof. Achilles Emilianides, Head of the Law Department at the University of Nicosia, while lawyer Melina Pyrgou discusses on what Cyprus needs to do if it is to rise up the rankings of the annual Doing Business report.

In addition to interviews with people as diverse as Professor Dominic Shellard, Vice-Chancellor of De Montfort University and Conny Lenneberg, World Vision International’s Regional Leader, Middle East and Eastern Europe, this month’s magazine also includes recommendations for your summer reading and the best cultural events, from opera in Paphos to Wine and Beer Festivals in Limassol and Nicosia respectively plus all the regular features that make up Cyprus’ favourite business magazine.
