Papadopoulos: More Women and Young Scientists in Semi-Governmental Boards of Directors

  The number of women and young scientists in the boards of directors of 14 semi-governmental organisations and five other bodies, which were announced on July 13, has been increased, Deputy Government Spokesman Victoras Papadopoulos has said, according to the Cyprus News Agency.

In statements after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, which convened under the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades, Papadopoulos said that the appointment of the members of the boards of directors will be ratified by the Cabinet on July 14.

Their selection, he said, has been made under strict criteria, taking into consideration their academic qualifications, their professional experience and focused on a greater participation of women and young scientists.

The participation of women has been increased to 27.2% compared to 19% in 2013, he pointed out.

In addition, Papadopoulos said that 76.5% of the members of the boards are in the 25 to 55 age group.

Concluding, he said that the new boards of directors were not selected from any political party lists.

The semi-governmental organisations and other bodies include the Electricity Authority Cyprus, the Cyprus Telecommunication Authority, the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus Tourism Organisation, the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, the Cyprus Sports Organisation, the Cyprus Theatre Organisation etc.
