Kouyialis to Appoint Commissioner for the Protection of Animals

Agriculture Minister Nicos Kouyialis announced on June 14 that the state was moving ahead with plans to appoint a Commissioner for the Protection and Welfare of Animals in Cyprus.
Addressing a representation of pupils awarded for academic work on animal protection, Kouyialis said the commissioner would: “Take on the coordination of the various responsible authorities and involved bodies to ensure the implementation of the law and, amongst other things, reduce the number of animals that are abused and abandoned”.
