Larnaca Rejects TOTAL and ENI Extension Request

With 13 votes against, 12 in favour and 1 abstention, Larnaca town hall rejected on February 8 the request by energy companies TOTAL and ENI to make use of the city’s port facilities for future exploratory drills.
According to InCyprus, the decision was taken amidst strong protest from activists who have opposed any industrial activity, with one councillor absent from the vote.
A decision was postponed late last month due to serious disagreements and intense discussion, with the council taking a vote to wait until legal consultations and negotiations with the companies could take place.
